Profit by Mojo in Hong Kong and Singapore

Hong Kong
In mid 1990s, the profits of Mojo in Hong Kong grew steadily from HK$30M to $60M. It was mainly due to pre handover boom in Hong Kong. However, this was followed by a sudden decline of profits from 1997-1999 and they reached a bottom of $20M. A possible reason addressing the decline was the post handover depression. The profits in Hong Kong rose back to $40M in 2001. The increase in profit was attributed to the growth in China market which also boost the economy in Hong Kong.

Singapore
Similarly, the profits of Mojo in Singapore also increased from 1994-1995 and reached a peak of $50M in 1995. It seems that the increase in profits was due to the loose Singapore taxation policy in early 1990s. However, the profits in the late 1990s plunged and reached $10M in 2001 while the profits in Hong Kong rebounded in 1999. It is clear that the decline in profits was due to the increasing competition Malaysia in the mid/late 1990s.

Staff are divided into senior staff and junior staff and each is being interviewed. Seven aspects relating to working conditions at the head office in Central were investigated to find the satisfactory level of staff towards them.

1. Equipment
The satisfaction level of senior level staff is around three times that of junior level staff. One of the reasons is that every senior level staff have their own printers in their rooms but all junior level staff have to share 3 laser printers. Junior level staff usually need to queue before receiving their documents which lower their working efficiency.

2. Office Furniture
Less than a half of junior level staff are satisfied with the office furniture while three quarters of senior level staff are contended. This is probably because of the chairs for junior level staff are uncomfortable, maintaining incorrect posture for a long period of time may causes health problem to the employee.

3. Pantry
Around a half of the interviewed staff are dissatisfied with the pantry. This is because only one microwave oven is not enough for the staff. The low efficiency forced many of them to dine outside. The findings perhaps indicate the need of purchasing one more microwave oven.
